I am impressed on how the film was presented by Wong Jing, the most prolific director in Hong Kong and by the performance of the protagonist, Chow Yun-Fat who played Ko Chun, a very lucky gambler and was renowned because he never loses and taught to have ability that he can read cards. This is a gambling movie with a mixture of violence, comedy and a twisted plot. For me, I like how Chow portrays different state of mind of character and represented it beautifully. Much of the film is comedic but still shows some fighting scenes and hostility, which is evident on most of the film of Wong.

The movie started with Ko playing with a Japanese gambler and the real intention is to let Ko play with a very dominant gambler, Mr. Chan. An unfortunate event happened to Ko when Knife, who was a small-time hustler and an unlucky gambler, caused an accident that led Ko with amnesia and having a mental state of a child. Together with his buddy and girlfriend, they nurtured him back to health because they felt responsible for what has happened to him. He became fond of chocolates but his gambling prowess did not diminish and he is on his winning streak again. The opponents of Ko tried different gambling tricks but that did not work and still Ko wins. He has this strange ability of somewhat changing the cards that he holds and the card of other player. He can also hear dices roll and what the odds are. It is not magic, but I cannot help but think how he did it. It is also like reading the mind of your opponent, but it just might be a simple psychological matter that has an effect to others.

After several streaks, they venture casino gaming and eventually after some twists and turns, he regain his memory. He now then needed to take revenge for what happened to his girlfriend, who is murdered by Yee, his number two man. He betrayed Ko buy killing his girlfriend and raping her. Now, Yee is allied with his main opponent Mr. Chan. In a gambling showdown, Mr. Chan uses special glasses that have the ability to see specially marked dots that is invisible to the naked eye. But in the end, Ko still wins and Mr, Chan was sent to jail for shooting the other man.

This movie brings laughter because of the antics and craziness that happened but also provide some good points in compassion and vengeance.
